The Main Menu in Chromperfect is the central hub that allows users to launch all other Chromperfect programs. This training video explains how the Main Menu works, how it can be configured for different users, and how both the modern taskbar menu and the classic legacy menu can be used.
Launching the Main Menu
When a user initiates a Chromperfect session, the Main Menu is usually the first program to launch. From here, the user can access ten major Chromperfect programs, including Run (Acquisition), Analysis, Files, Solutions, Profile Editor, History, Station Manager, System Manager, Find, and Configure.
The taskbar menu appears across the top of the screen (or bottom, depending on configuration). It claims this space so no other windows cover it. Depending on security settings, users may be prompted to log in with a username and password before access is granted.
The Main Menu Chromperfect Taskbar
The Main Menu taskbar provides buttons with icons or captions to launch all major programs. These buttons include:
Run – Communicates with instruments and creates raw files
Analysis – Integrates raw files, generates reports, and creates bound files
Files – Edits methods and other files
Solutions – Creates consolidated acquisition files containing method, calibration, and report formats
Profile Editor – Manages user search directories
History – Displays data, error, and alarm log files
Station Manager – Maintains local audit settings
System Manager – Controls system-wide security, audit settings, and user accounts
Find – Searches directories for Chromperfect files
Configure – Displays and configures the Chromperfect acquisition service
Additional buttons include About (version and license information) and Close (exit). If Chromperfect security is enabled, certain buttons (such as System Manager) may only be visible to administrators.
Configuring the Main Menu in Chromperfect
Administrators can configure the Main Menu Chromperfect taskbar to remove, hide, or show specific buttons for different users. This is done using configuration files such as:
cpmenuestandard.ini – Editable file to customize button visibility
cpmenu caption.ini – Provides captions and background colors
The system checks for configuration files (e.g., cpmenu.ini) when the menu launches. Different configurations can be created for specific users or groups by editing shortcuts and pointing them to the appropriate configuration file.
The Classic Main Menu
Chromperfect still supports the classic main menu for users who prefer the older format. Although replaced by the taskbar system, the classic menu can still launch programs, display license information, and adapt to security settings.
Right-click options allow the user to keep the menu always on top, shrink it into a toolbar format, or retain menu settings between sessions. Configuration is handled through a classic .ini file (CP menu standard classic.ini).
User Preferences and Security
Running the Main Menu ensures that users are not repeatedly prompted to log in when opening different programs. Administrators may also restrict idle time for security. Importantly, removing buttons from the Main Menu does not bypass Chromperfect security — permissions and restrictions remain enforced at the program level.
