When laboratories need to compare results from several chromatographic runs, reviewing each chromatogram individually can quickly become inefficient. Chromperfect Summary provides a practical way to combine selected results from multiple processed chromatograms, calculate statistics across those runs, and export the resulting data for further work in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft 365, LIMS platforms, and other third-party applications.

Export Chromatography Data to Excel from Multiple Runs

The Export Chromatography Data to Excel workflow is especially useful when working with repeat injections, related samples, method validation work, reproducibility studies, quality-control data, or any application where results from several chromatograms need to be compared side by side.

Chromperfect Summary is designed specifically for this type of multi-run reporting. Rather than generating another individual chromatogram report, it reads selected information from several processed files and brings those results together into a structured tabular report.

The resulting data can then be reviewed inside Chromperfect, printed, exported as a delimited text file, or written directly to an Excel XLSX file for further analysis.

Raw Files, Bound Files and the Summary Workflow

Chromperfect distinguishes between Raw data files and processed Bound files.

Comparison of Chromperfect raw versus bound files

A Raw file preserves the original chromatographic acquisition data. A Bound file represents the processed run and contains the chromatogram together with the associated processing information, including the Method, Calibration data, integration results and other information required to reproduce the processed result.

For that reason, Chromperfect Summary works with Bound files using the BND extension.

If the chromatograms you want to compare currently exist only as Raw files, they must first be processed into Bound files. This can happen automatically as part of the normal Chromperfect processing workflow, retrospectively through Batch Processing, or individually from the Analysis program.

Raw files should still be retained as the original acquisition record. Bound files provide the processed snapshot that is particularly useful for review, reporting, archiving and multi-run analysis.

Batch Processing and Summary Are Different Tools

It is important not to confuse Chromperfect Batch Processing with the Summary utility.

Batch Processing is used to process multiple chromatograms. It can process Raw files, create Bound files and generate reports for individual runs.

Summary performs a different job.

It takes selected information from multiple processed Bound files and combines those results into a single comparative report. In a typical workflow, Batch Processing may therefore be used to prepare the files, while Summary is used afterwards to compare the results.

Selecting the Chromatography Data You Want to Compare

Summary can be opened from the Tools menu in several Chromperfect programs, including Analysis and the various file-editing programs.

The Summary interface is divided into a series of tabs that control the contents and layout of the final report.

The Items tab allows users to select analytical values such as Amount, Area, Height and Retention Time, together with other calculated results. Ratios can also be included, allowing values from subsequent files to be compared with the first file in the Summary list.

The Advanced Items section provides additional measurements including Skew, Tailing and RMS Noise.

This allows the Summary report to contain much more than simple concentration or peak-area data. It can also be used to compare chromatographic performance and peak characteristics across multiple runs.

Selecting Bound Files and Components

The Files tab specifies which Bound files will be included.

Files can be selected using Browse, entered directly, or loaded from Sequence, text or XML files. Chromperfect can also check the selected Bound files before processing.

The Components tab determines which peaks or groups of results will appear in the report.

Depending on the application, users can work with named calibrated components, peaks selected according to size, peak totals based on selections, or groups defined within Calibration data.

This flexibility means the same Summary utility can support anything from a straightforward comparison of one compound across several injections to a broader multi-component analytical report.

Compare Runs and Calculate Statistics

Chromperfect provides four Summary report layouts, allowing files, components and selected analytical values to be organised in different ways.

Statistics can also be calculated across the selected Bound files.

These include:

  • Average

  • Standard deviation

  • Percent relative standard deviation (%RSD)

For laboratories carrying out repeat injections or reproducibility checks, this provides a rapid way to assess variation across several chromatographic runs without manually copying results from individual reports.

Export Chromatography Data to Microsoft Excel

Once processing is complete, Chromperfect generates the combined Summary report for review.

One of its most useful output options is direct export to Microsoft Excel in XLSX format.

Moving the results into Excel opens up a familiar Microsoft 365 environment for further work.

Laboratories can create charts, compare samples, perform additional calculations, investigate trends, prepare management reports or combine chromatography results with other operational data.

This can be particularly useful when chromatography data needs to move beyond the chromatography data system and become part of a wider laboratory or business reporting workflow.

Excel is not the only destination. Summary can also generate delimited text output, making the resulting chromatography data suitable for import into many third-party applications, LIMS systems, databases and other analytical or reporting platforms.

Chromatography Data for Microsoft 365, LIMS and Third-Party Applications

Modern laboratories rarely operate chromatography software in isolation.

Analytical results may ultimately need to be shared with Microsoft 365 applications, laboratory information management systems, quality-control databases, enterprise reporting tools or custom data-processing applications.

By transforming multiple processed chromatograms into structured tabular data, Chromperfect Summary provides a useful bridge between the chromatography data system and these external tools.

The underlying chromatography processing remains within Chromperfect, while the resulting analytical information can be transferred into the environment best suited to the next stage of the workflow.

A Simple Multi-Run Reporting Workflow

The overall process is straightforward: process the chromatograms into Bound files, open Summary from the Tools menu, select the files and analytical results you want to compare, choose the appropriate report layout and statistical options, generate the combined Summary, and then export the results to Excel or another suitable data format.

For laboratories working with repeat injections, sequences of related samples, quality-control results or any application requiring comparisons across multiple chromatograms, Chromperfect Summary provides an efficient way to turn processed chromatography results into structured data ready for Microsoft Excel, Microsoft 365, LIMS and other third-party reporting and analysis systems.

The technical workflow above follows the Main Manual’s description of Summary as a utility for merging selected data from several processed chromatograms, collecting statistics and producing tabular reports, with Bound files serving as the source files for the Summary workflow.
