If the Run (Data Acquisition) program Chromperfect spreadsheet crash immediately on launch with an “Unhandled Exception” message, the cause is almost always a corrupted spreadsheet layout file—often after a Windows crash or improper shutdown. The fix takes less than a minute and does not affect your data, methods, or calibrations.
What’s happening
Chromperfect stores the Run window’s spreadsheet layout in a small configuration file. If that file is damaged, Run can’t start correctly and exits with an error.
Quick fix (step-by-step)
Close all Chromperfect applications.
Open File Explorer and go to:C:\Chromperfect
Find the file:CPSingleUser-68.ini
Rename it to keep a backup (for example CPSingleUser-68.old) or delete it.
Start Chromperfect again and open Run.
Chromperfect will automatically create a fresh configuration file, and the spreadsheet view should load normally.
How to confirm it worked
Run opens without the “Unhandled Exception” error.
The spreadsheet appears with default column widths and positions (you can customize them again).

Will this remove my data or methods?
No. You’re only resetting a UI layout file. Your raw data, methods, sequences, calibrations, and reports are unaffected.
Which versions are affected?
Chromperfect 6.8 and above.
Does it depend on my instrument or hardware?
No. This issue and fix are not instrument-specific and have no hardware dependency.
Tips to avoid a repeat
Always exit Chromperfect before shutting down Windows.
If Windows crashes, perform the steps above if Run won’t reopen.
Optional: after you’ve customized the spreadsheet, keep a copy of the regenerated CPSingleUser-68.ini as a personal backup in case you want to restore your layout later.
