Chromperfect provides powerful tools to automate chromatography data acquisition, saving time and reducing manual intervention. Automation can be configured to repeat sequence files, restart runs automatically, or release instruments once tasks are complete. This article explains how to set up automation in Chromperfect for both HPLC and GC workflows.
Configuring Automatic Data Acquisition
To begin configuring automation, open the Run program from the Chromperfect main menu and claim your instrument on the Selection tab. Then switch to the Status tab, click the control icon, or right-click within the spreadsheet. From here, select Download to open the form with automation settings.
The Automation Tab
The automation section provides three key features:
Automatic Repeat
Automatic Restart
Automatic Release
These options make it possible to continuously acquire data without user intervention.
The Automatic Repeat Feature
Automatic Repeat allows the same sequence file entries to be reused without editing and re-downloading.
If disabled: each run uses the next sequence entry until finished, then repeats using incremented cycle numbers.
If enabled: once the end of the sequence file is reached, Chromperfect returns to the first entry.
To enable, check the Enable box. Options are provided to handle raw data file naming and prevent overwriting, depending on how base names and cycle numbers are defined in the sequence file.
The Automatic Restart Feature
Automatic Restart eliminates the need to manually start each run.
Continuous: runs continue until manually stopped or paused.
One Pass: runs continue until the end of the sequence file.
Timed: runs start at specific clock times set in the spreadsheet.
This is particularly useful for process control applications or for monitoring reaction progress with repeated sampling.
Note: For legacy HP/Agilent 5890, 6890, and 6850 systems, use One Pass when vial numbers are specified.
Automatically Release User’s Claim
When enabled, this feature releases the instrument once all sequence file entries are acquired. It is especially useful for shared instruments.
To activate, check Release user’s claim on this instrument at end of sequence.
Benefits of automating chromatography data acquisition Chromperfect
Automation with Chromperfect improves:
Efficiency: less manual setup between runs.
Data integrity: consistent acquisition settings.
Collaboration: easier sharing of instruments in multi-user environments.
By combining repeat, restart, and release features, labs can achieve continuous, reliable acquisition for both HPLC and GC systems.
