If your Agilent 7890 Gas Chromatograph shows Ready in Chromperfect, you start a run, but no chromatogram appears — and after about a minute you see the error “Subscribe to Data” — this guide explains what’s happening and how to fix it.

What Causes the Subscribe to data error Agilent 7890 GC Chromperfect

This issue is not caused by Chromperfect. In fact, the software successfully sends the start signal to your GC. The problem occurs when Windows or a security program blocks the return data ports, preventing Chromperfect from receiving the chromatogram data.

It’s not a configuration error within Chromperfect — if you can download a method and start a run, your setup is correct. The issue lies within your PC or network environment.

Steps to Resolve the Error

1. Confirm the Symptom

Start an acquisition that normally displays a live chromatogram.

If the GC stays in Ready, no trace appears, and the error shows after roughly one minute — continue to the next step.

2. Set the Network to Private or Work

On Windows 11:

Go to Settings → Network & Internet

Select your active connection → Network Profile → Choose Private

If your PC has multiple network cards (e.g., Ethernet and Wi-Fi), make sure the card connected to the GC is set to Private.

3. Allow Chromperfect Programs Through Windows Firewall

Permit both of these applications through Windows Firewall:

Chromperfect Acquisition Client

Chromperfect Acquisition Service

If missing, add them manually from your Chromperfect installation folder.

4. Check Required Ports

For the Agilent 7890 GC, the following ports must be open:

9100

12300

7990–8000 (a range of 10 consecutive ports)

If your IT policies restrict ports, you may need their assistance to open these both inbound and outbound.

5. Review Third-Party Security Software

Products such as Norton, AVG, Avast, or similar may block traffic even when Windows Firewall allows it.

Temporarily disable protection and test again. If this resolves the issue, re-enable protection and create exceptions for the Chromperfect programs and required ports.

6. Disable Unused Network Adapters

If your PC is connected via Ethernet, turn off Wi-Fi and any unused adapters under Settings → Network & Internet. Mixed connections can cause routing conflicts that block return data.

7. Verify the Chromperfect Acquisition Service

Open Services.msc and check that the Chromperfect Acquisition Service is running.

If stopped, start it. If running, restart it.

8. Ask IT to Verify Network Policy

If the problem persists, your IT department must ensure the return data port is open end-to-end between the GC and the PC, with no network device or firewall blocking it.

Final Check

After the ports are open, start another acquisition.

If the chromatogram draws immediately, your system is fixed.

Re-enable any protections that were temporarily disabled.

Summary

The Subscribe to data error Agilent 7890 GC Chromperfect is almost always a network communication issue, not a Chromperfect fault. Following the above steps will resolve the vast majority of cases without needing software reconfiguration.
